Vanson Vests:
Vanson designed these hi-tech "Streamliner" thermal vests to be worn under the PROperf™ ventilated jackets in cooler weather. They have a special low-bulk design which is windproof and insulated. Now Vanson Leathers has added heating elements to this popular vest to keep you warm and toasty in the coldest weather. The vest is powered from your motorcycle's 12 Volt power outlet. Don't have a power outlet on your bike... no problem... we can supply that too.
The controller unit has a cleverly designed plug which fits both types of outlets:
cigarette lighter sized or the smaller BMW size.
The vest's solid state controller features a larger control knob engineered
so you can adjust the temperature without removing your gloves.
Both the heated version and the standard Streamliner thermal vests are designed to be snapped into Vanson jackets such as the Sport Rider series. You can also wear these under jackets without snaps or simply wear them alone. The vests feature hand warmer pockets for occasions when you wear them without your jacket. The Streamliner vest has proven so popular that Vanson introduced a long-sleeved version designed for use in the Vanson jackets with PROperf™ ventilated sleeves. OK - for purist... there's no such thing as a long sleeved vest. Technically this is an insulated, low-bulk windbreaker / thermal jacket liner since vests can't be short sleeved. It works just fine when used by itself as a windbreaker and also has handwarmer pockets. So there are 3 configurations available:
The standard thermal and heated vests are black on the outside and international safety orange on the inside.
You can reverse them to attract attention in an emergency or just because you're vain.
The long sleeved vest is black inside and outside.
The PROperf™ jackets are designed to let the wind through for ventilation in summer but that's a problem in cooler weather! So these vests required a special type of wind resistant insulation. The lining of these vests has to provide insulation but also needs to keep the wind from getting through. On top of that, it has to allow these vests to breathe so they don't get clammy and damp. Vanson chose Dupont ComforMax IB® high tech fabric for the ultimate in low-bulk insulation and wind resistance. It's a remarkable barrier fabric that protects against the wind and cold and has a high MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transfer Rate). It provides a wind barrier equal to 8 layers of taffeta or 14 layers of popular thin insulation. Vanson was first to use ComforMax in a garment. So you can have your cake and eat it. You can have a cool PROperf™ jacket in the heat of summer and use a Vanson vest to convert it for wearing in cool weather. If you ride in California it's not unusual on the coast or in the mountains to run into very warm and very cool weather on the same ride. So keep a vest in your tank bag.
When you choose the heated vest note that its controller is sold separately to allow flexibility.
You can replace Sizing:These vests are sized using U.S. men's jacket sizes and are available in sizes 32 through 62. The vests are designed to fit under your riding jacket, so they're tailored for a snug fit. If you'll be wearing these vests with a Vanson jacket, order the same size as your jacket. For other jackets, use the sizing advice for our Vanson Sportsrider jackets to find your correct size. To go to that page, click here. Here are conversion tables to U.S. men's jacket sizes from U.S. women's and European men's sizes.

The Electrical Stuff for the "Electron" Heated Vest:
The "Electron" heated vest draws about 35 watts at 12 Volts DC on the high temperature setting. The controller has a red LED indicator which shows when it's receiving power from your motorcycle outlet. The knob is used to adjust temperature. When the controller knob is fully counter-clockwise the vest is at the lowest temperature and the red light stays on steadily. As the knob is turned clockwise, the red indicator light flashes more frequently and the vest temperature is increased. A cheaper alternative to the controller is available. It is a simple power cord with an On/Off switch.
The Accessory Power Outlet ships with a 7.5 Amp fuse. This means that you can install it, if
your bike doesn't already have an accessory outlet, by simply wiring it to your battery.
