Every year during Kiel Week, more than 3 million visitors celebrate the biggest summer festival in Northern Europe and the largest sailing regatta in the world lasting for 9 days. The former Olympic sailing centre atKiel-Schilksee turns into a Mecca of sailing when around 4,000 sailors from more than 50 nations compete in the races on the Kiel Fjord.
Strong partners - Kiel Week and boot Düsseldorf As a long-standing partner of Kiel Week, boot Düsseldorf organizes the important weather forecasts information presented by weather expert Meeno Schrader during the nine race days. For the regatta sailors from around the world, the boot Düsseldorf Lounge is the first port of call at the Kieler Woche Race Village in Kiel-Schilksee. This is where the check-in takes place, race trackers are issued and branded chill out areas offer refreshments and free wifi access in-between the races.
Long-term partnership Kiel Week has a fixed place in the yearly calendar of boot Düsseldorf. The major event in Kiel is a unique and perfect implementation of the boot's motto "Experience 360° watersports": you can pursue exciting regattas, enjoy entertainment on land, exchange information and experiences with active, enthusiastic sailors, sponsors and organizers. This international top racing event and the world's largest boat and watersports fair are simply a great team and naturally belong together.
It is already for more than 30 years that boot Düsseldorf has been an active supporter of watersports. Every year the exhibition organizers leave their inland homebase behind during the summer months to support major watersports events along the coast and on the big lakes.
Sailing is the heart of Kiel Week One thing has been and will always be the focus of Kiel Week: sailing at its highest level. Since 1882 Kieler Woche is not only one of the oldest sailing events in the world, also Kiel served as a venue for Olympic racing twice in 1936 and 1972. Sailing at Kieler Woche is always the cutting edge. It was not without reason that the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) called it the "mother and father of all sailing regattas".
International & Olympic Classes at Kiel Week Kiel Week is an almost obligatory event for world champions and olympians alike. If you want to become an olympic champion, you have to be able to win at Kiel Week - that is what experienced sailors say about the standing of the event. The races at Kiel combine "class" with "mass", world class sailors compete next to local sailors of all age groups. In order to control the onslaught of sailors in the Olympic Center Schilksee, the sailing competitions have been divided into International Classes and Olympic Classes on separate days since 1993. The offshore races have their own schedule as well.
Sailing in its complete diversity In addition to high performance sailing, Kiel Week offers sailing in all its fascinating range - be it at the rendezvous of classic yachts, the races of the naval cutters or the great parade of tall ships and traditional boats on the second Saturday of Kiel Week. And, of course, new trends and developments in sailing also feature at Kiel Week and are put to reality tests. All this as well as the successful co-operation of four established German yacht clubs under the leadership of Kiel Yacht Club (KYC) in the organization of the event turns Kiel Week into an extraordinary sailing experience for round about 4,000 sailors on 2,000 sailing boats and yachts.
