A. With a coastline of almost 16,000 kilometres, Greece boasts the largest coastline in the Mediterranean. Characteristically, almost 70% of the Greek population lives by the coastal zone, while a large number of activities and uses revolves around it : residences, entertainment and tourism, industries, commerce, fishing and aquaculture, sea sport activities, farming and animal husbandry, communication and marine transports, wetlands, etc.
B. Greece also has 427 beautiful and unique islands in the Aegean and the Ionian. Those beautiful islands are the ideal destination for recreational vessels and yaching.
C. Its climate is ideal with dry summers and mild winters. For almost 8 months a year, the Greek weather permits/helps the yachting activities and all other sea sport activities. This great climate is accompanied by calm and friendly seas and warm waters in comparison with countries in northern latitudes.
D. Greece possesses a safe socio-political and hospitable environment that we must preserve. The latest developments in North Africa and the drift of tourists to safer destinations prove that without safety there is no tourism and thus, there is no nautical tourism.
E. Everybody knows that Greece is famous worldwide for its nautical tradition. It is a country which ranks first in the international shipping industry, with prudent shipowners, specialized and experienced crews, technical expertise and first-class repair and maintenance yards. In fact, one shall expect that Greece would also rank among the first in terms of exploitation and development of nautical tourism, with a large number of marinas along its coastline and islands.
