130 Years Travemünde Week

45 years of partnership with boot Düsseldorf

boot Düsseldorf and Travemünde Week celebrate a 45 year partnership in 2019. The world's largest water sports fair and the world's second largest regatta series have been working together hand in hand since 1974. Kurt Schoop, the head of the fair at the time, recognised the importance of establishing contacts with seaside events for a boat show in the middle of the country, which gave birth to the partnership with Travemünde Week.

Every year on the first Saturday of Travemünde Week, the Rhinelanders have since invited local politicians, sailing associations, the media and manufacturers to a traditional chat on the historic cargo ship Passat in Priwall harbour. The motto of the events each year is a different destination that the four-masted barque has headed for in its active time.
This year, the evening will be devoted to the exciting Cape Horn, which is rich in seafaring history, however, it will not be as stormy on the Passat on the 20th July as it is on the southernmost tip of South America. Instead, there will be culinary delicacies prepared according to original Chilean recipes. The menu includes, for example, a pebre tomato dip, fried watermelon, empanadas and a special corn gratin.

Save the Passat

"The 'Klönschnack' on the Passat has a very special meaning for us. Here in Travemünde the partnerships of boot Düsseldorf with the big sailing regattas were initiated. For me personally it is also always a very special memory of my good friend and predecessor Kurt Schoop", explains Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, head of the fair.

As part of the evening, Dornscheidt and boot Düsseldorf Director Petros Michelidakis will present the chairman of the association "Save the Passat", Holger Bull, with a cheque for 3,000 € to support the maintenance of the traditional sailing vessel.

Michelidakis: "The support of the Passat is symbolic of the fact that boot Düssseldorf has been promoting and supporting sailing for years. That's why we are adding a hall to the sailing segment at boot Düsseldorf. Hall 17 will be a dedicated sailing hall starting with boot 2020. For sailing beginners there will be the new area "Start Sailing" in hall 15. Here sailors and those who want to make this dream come true meet in a cool and inviting atmosphere to get to know each other and exchange ideas".
