Action-packed contests, awards and celebrities on the first weekend

The board sports hall of the 50th boot proudly boasted a warm atmosphere, numerous athletic highlights, awards and interesting celebrity talks on the show stage on the first weekend of the fair.

After the first two runs of the Ladies Wave masters were held on Saturday, the showdown took place on the first Sunday of the fair. The final on the THE WAVE by Citywave provided plenty of action early in the morning. Frontrunner Janina Zeitler was able to take the lead in her runs and also on the second day she did not let anybody stay dry who was within reach of the standing wave.

Final run with top performances
Zeitler showed 360 degree rotations skillfully transferred into clean turns. But also her opponents showed their best in the final run and showed 360 degree rotations on the wave. Johanna Lackner was able to fight her way closer to Janina during the previous runs and finished second. Valeska Schneider finished the competition for the women's Wave Masters at boot 2019 in a good third place.

Final runs of the men
Not only the ladies finished their Wave Masters competition on the first Sunday of the 50th boot, also the men showed what is possible on a standing wave. Lennard Weinhold won his run yesterday and continued his winning streak. The 17-year-old from Munich showed risky tricks, but landed many of them perfectly and convinced the jury with his style on the wave and thus secured his first place.

Impressive tricks on the wave
Second in the Wave Masters competition was Joshi Holy, who managed to keep his cool in front of a crowded grandstand at the Citywave and surfed solidly through his runs to the finals. Simon Bitterlich from Munich finished third. Bitterlich did already prove in 2018 with his second place that he has what it takes to make it to the top in the riversurfing scene. The turns and tricks the riders presented on the standing wave on the final day were impressive. All riders showed with their manoeuvres that they belong to the best riversurfers on European level and that the 2019 Citywave is even better than the previous year's wave at boot 2018.

German Speedking honoured
The German Speedking Prize is awarded to the fastest windsurfers in Germany. At the German Speedkings every windsurfer can register online and upload his personal Top Speed, measured by GPS Tracker. In the men's category, Roberto Hofmann was able to hold his own over the 2018 season, in the French La Franqui he flashed across the water at a good 83 kilometers per hour. Second in the overall standings was Manfred Merle who also broke the 80 km/h mark.

Thomas Döblin was able to reach a good 78 km/h on the GPS clock in the North German Wadden Sea. Also the ladies showed how fast they are. Here Birgit Höfer could easily take the lead, she reached 68 km/h in the French La Franqui. Anne Schindler from Berlin took second place with 60,7 km/h, closely followed by Heike Kracke who reached 59,7 km/h.

Showdown at the pool
At the Windsurf Tow-In competition among friends, the five guys of the German Freestyle Battles delivered a thrilling show on Sunday. At the wakeboard cable track the spectators saw action and manoeuvres that are normally only possible with a lot of wind on the water. The Duisburg-born Niclas Nebelung lived up to his role as favourite and secured victory with a triple rotation ahead of Valentin Böckler and Jannes Thomsen. At the edge of the 65 meter long indoor pool several hundred spectators lined up to cheer on the freestylers. The Tow-In Event enabled the spectators to experience extraordinary windsurfing manoeuvres under the roof of the hall. All five riders showed maneuvers that seem to override some of the rules of physics.
