Fishing holidays in Germany are very popular and on the rise. Therefore, we feature attractive and inexpensive destinations in Germany. This time: Lake Breitenau near Heilbronn - a real gem for anglers looking for a good predator and carp spot. Summer visitors to the "Swabian Rimini" will not find endless peace and quiet here. It is a lively spot during the summer season. Only in autumn and winter it becomes more contemplative. As the bathing season draws to a close, the time comes for big fish: zander, pike, perch and carp. If you want to combine a wonderful holiday with family or friends with exciting fish fights, then the Löwenstein mountains are the perfect place for you.
Bathing lake with a bite
With its 38 hectares of water surface, Lake Breitenau is the largest bathing lake in northern Baden-Württemberg. It was not until 1986 that the entire local recreation area, including leisure facilities for sailors and surfers, a camping site, a 400-metre-long bay with a sunbathing lawn and best of all: fishing jetties closed to non-anglers, was handed over to the public. Also, anglers who depend on wheelchairs can get really close to the fish. A favourable spot has been equipped with a wheelchair-accessible driveway especially for disabled anglers. The local fishing club, which also provides for the lake's excellent stocking, deserves a lot of praise in this regard.
Beautiful pike & zander
By damming up the river Sulm, a 1.5 kilometre long and 200 to 500 metres wide lake was created in the 1970s. Nowadays there is life in and around it because Heilbronn with its street cafés and shopping facilities is less than 20 kilometres away and the award-winning campsite attracts tourists from near and far.
From 6th to 15th March 2021, Auckland, New Zealand, will host the 36th America's Cup match race. The defending champion “Emirates Team New Zealand” will compete in up to 13 individual races against the winner of this year’s Prada Cup, “Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team”. Starting in March, the teams will fight for the coveted trophy in up to 13 races.
The chances to catch beautiful zander or pike are not bad, at all. The hot predatory fish season at Lake Breitenau begins on 15th May - with dead bait fish attached to the rod or artificial baits such as wobblers, spoons and rubber fish. The largest pike caught to date was 27 pounds and 128 centimetres long. On average, the zander can reach two to three kilos and the sting knights can reach one kilo.
Big fish guaranteed
Nice carp fights are also possible. Fish up to 15 pounds appear in masses: Catches guaranteed! But the pointer of the scales usually stops just under 20 pounds. But if you don't have to set new records, you can certainly live with that. Very yielding is the two-meter-deep shallow water area at the auxiliary dam. Only anglers are allowed to access the lake here, swimming or boating are forbidden. Exactly the right test area for Ben Boden, who tests his own boilie creations on his local spot and makes great catches all the time. But other methods can also proof successful, as club member and fishing equipment dealer Joachim Rupp can tell. He successfully goes fishing using a Belly Boat and a fly rod.

Rods, reels & baits: Hall 13 is the central meeting point for all angling fans.
A five-kilometre-long path leads around the lake. Even anglers looking for peace and quiet should not find it difficult to seek out a hidden spot as the local fishing club has built several wooden jetties that are reserved exclusively for anglers. And if one of the jetties should be occupied by a sun worshipper who has settled illegally on the wooden planks, you may enjoy the beautiful view and the lovely landscape and just follow down the path a little further to the next spot. After all, Lake Breitenau has something to offer for every kind of water sports enthusiast.
