The aluminium yacht specialist Alubat from France has announced a completely new yacht concept which clearly stands out from its predecessors in terms of construction and design: the OVNI 400. As usual for Alubat's blue water yachts, the OVNI 400 succeeds in combining safety at sea with good sailing performance and the comfort necessary for long-distance cruising.
Voluminous bow Designed by Mortain & Mavrikios, the 400 distinguishes itself from the OVNI 395 by a very voluminous bow section, which allows for more living space below decks. The double steering system and a cabin construction which has glass all around and is quite massive, are innovations at Alubat; this provides a pleasant standing height and plenty of natural light in the saloon. The swivel keel, on the other hand, which allows to reduce the yacht's draught to just 98 cm, thus making shallow waters accessible and allowing to fall dry in tidal waters, is part of Alubat's usual standard.
Fixed sprayhood On deck, the OVNI 400 layout comes across well organized, foredeck and side decks remain free of tripping hazards and all halyards and sheets run concealed under the cockpit roof to four winches on both sides of the companionway. A large tarpaulin bar directly at the companionway supports the traveller track of the main sheet and at the same time serves as a holder for a fixed plexiglass sprayhood that protects the entire cockpit from wind and spray. A rear cockpit opening allows easy access to a bathing platform and the aft arch at the stern allows the installation of a davit for tenders or the installation of additional solar modules for improved power supply.
Five layouts to choose from Below decks, Alubat offers an astonishing number of layout variants for the OVNI 400, while the interior offers a choice of light oak or teak. As standard the OVNI 400 has two double cabins, a bathroom with separate shower and a large technical or storage space for sailing wardrobe and accessories. The guest cabin is located aft on port and is generously cut. The technical room is opposite to it and can be replaced by a symmetrically arranged double cabin on request. In the bow there is the large, voluminous owner's cabin with a big king-size bed. An additional bathroom can be ordered on request for extra privacy. The fifth layout option is a four-cabin version, in which the forward cabin is divided into two individual cabins.
Comfortable saloon The saloon of the OVNI 400 is bright and friendly thanks to the all-round glazed cabin structure and skylights. It offers an extraordinarily comfortable standing height. To port, the nav station with its large chart table, positioned directly next to the companionway, is adjoined by an L-shaped couch. Opposite to it, centrally in the saloon, an additional bench with a high backrest offers more pleasant seating around the dining table. On starboard, there is a comfortable and fully equipped kitchen, which leaves nothing to be desired.
