The Essener Segelwoche (Essen Sailing Week) is the highlight of the regatta season for sailors in North Rhine-Westphalia on the first two weekends of September each year. Of course, the commitment and competence of boot Düsseldorf must not be missing at this event.
The regattas of the Essen sailing week start on Lake Baldeney, the largest water sports area in North Rhine-Westphalia. The regatta week was initiated in 1957 by the Essener Segelclub (Essen Sailing Club), has been organized by the Wettfahrtgemeinschaft der Segler am Baldeneysee e.V. since 2009 and consists of several regattas.
Packed schedule Up to 500 active sailors per year take part in the Essen Sailing Week, the main event of which is the open association races, which are held every year for various boat classes as ranking regattas. But also the Essen City Championship (Yardstick Regatta and City Championship for all classes), the Essen Opti Cup (Rankings Regatta and City Championship for Opti-B, Opti-C, Open BIC), the EU Cup for Cruise Sailors (Yardstick Regatta) and the Team Cup (Nordic Folkboat Regatta of the Essen Sailing Clubs and Guest / Sponsor Crews) are an essential and fixed part of the Essen Sailing Week.
Active area Lake Baldeney is the largest and most important water sports area in North Rhine-Westphalia. 2,300 sailors, 1,900 rowers and 2,300 canoeists are organized in more than 60 clubs around the lake. The local sailors alone organise around 35 regattas each season, including several national championships and over 20 regattas, the results of which are incorporated into the national rankings of the various boat classes. In 2014, for example, a total of 217 boats took part in the Essen Sailing Week alone.
Colourful supporting programmeon shore The regatta, which has existed since 1957, naturally also offers an extensive supporting programme with many gastronomic offers and live music. On the west side of the lake, in the immediate vicinity of the regatta stand and against the backdrop of Villa Hügel, the former residence of the Krupp family, a tent is set up every year from which visitors to the event can enjoy an optimal view of what is happening on the water.
During the most important, regional regatta week in the greater North Rhine-Westphalia area, the commitment of boot Düsseldorf is of course indispensable. For many years now, boot Düsseldorf has been a competent partner in water sports for the Essen sailing week. In addition to flagging and providing giveaways, boot Düsseldorf traditionally supports the Essen Sailing Week with the popular participant and point prizes awarded to the participants and winners of the regattas.
boot Düsseldorf teams on the start line In 2017 two boot Düsseldorf teams took part for the first time in the Team Cup, a Folkboat regatta during the Essen sailing week. A special highlight was that three spots on each boat were awarded to members of the boot.club in an exclusive competition prior to the regatta. Under the guidance of experienced skippers, boot.club members will have the opportunity to get a taste of the regatta air themselves.
