MAIOR - May Offshore Regatta

Start of the yachting season

At the latest after boot Düsseldorf it is high time for ambitious regatta sailors in Germany to prepare for the coming season. With the MAIOR, the May Offshore Regatta, the Kiel Yacht Club traditionally opens the regatta season for offshore and one-design boats every year on the first weekend of May.

Every year on the 1st weekend of May, about 70 crews attend the MAIOR for the first showdown on the Kiel Fjord. Traditionally, a wide variety of offshore yachts and the one-design classes J/80 and J/70 meet there at the start of the season. The offshore yachts will be divided into three classes (ORC 1, ORC 2 and ORC 3).

Partnership of KYC & boot Düsseldorf

The organizing club of the MAIOR, the Kiel Yacht Club, stands for a long tradition in regatta sailing at the highest level. The work of the KYC focuses on the sailing training of young people and adults as well as the organisation of high-ranking regattas such as the Kiel Week, MAIOR, YES and World and European Championships in various classes. Through its commitment to the Kiel Week and the YES regattas, boot Düsseldorf is also closely associated with the KYC, which is one of the largest and most historic sailing clubs in Germany with around 1,400 members.
