Michael Walther is planning a spectacular Atlantic crossing — solo on an offshore stand-up paddleboard that's just six meters long. He will cover around 6,000 kilometers across the ocean alone and without support. It's an extreme challenge that will push him to his physical and mental limits.

At first glance, this may seem like an extreme adventure, but it is actually a powerful symbol of the journey towards greater sustainability. Major change doesn’t happen all at once; it takes endurance and determination, and in this case, it takes one paddle stroke after another.

This Atlantic crossing is about much more than just a sporting challenge. It embodies the courage to confront urgent questions about our future. Walther relies on minimalist yet highly functional equipment to support him for weeks at sea, making a clear statement that climate action requires smart solutions and long-term perseverance above all else.

From Portugal to French Guiana

The starting point will be the south-western tip of Portugal. From there, he will head south, passing the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. He will then continue southwest, with his final destination being Cayenne in French Guiana. He has planned to complete the Atlantic crossing in approximately three months.

This challenge will entail roughly 4 million paddle strokes, the burning of 600,000 calories, and spending 2,500 hours alone on the water. Michael expects a journey full of extremes, from stormy seas and blistering sunshine during calm spells, to cool, windy nights, and those quiet, magical moments that only the ocean can offer.
