Giant spectacle at the international stationary wave riding competition on THE WAVE

Women's competition
In the women's competition, the European champion of 2016, Janina Zeitler (17.25 points) won against Rosina Neuerer (15 points). Both are just 16 years old and come from Munich, the hotspot of river wave riding. Mareen Scholz on third place, also from Munich, was only 0.5 points behind. In front of a cheering crowd, the finalists of the women's tournament presented spectacular moves like the Air Reverse, a 360° rotation with the board. Especially Janina inspired the audience with her radical, powerful style on the wave. Spirits flew high in Hall 2 and the Düsseldorf audience frenetically cheered Europe’s wave riding elite on.

Men's competition
In an exciting men's final, 17-year-old Simon Bitterlich at last carried the day against 15-year-old Lenny Weinhold. The two have been surfing since their early childhood on Munich’s Eisbach and already won titles in the Grom Class of the under-16s at the European Championships in stationary wave riding. Simon fascinated the jury with radical rides and perfectly executed tricks. However, Lenny also scored points with frontside and backside Air Reverses and perfect Pop Shove-its. In third place, 17-year-old Moritz Wieneke, the current vice European champion. The surprise of the day was the spectator’s darling Hannes Meures from the Citywave-Team who made it into the finals.

Knock-out system and a jury of three
The jury paid particular attention to smooth execution of moves and the amount of displaced water during the turns at the basin’s edge. All the more surprising therefore, that at the end the two lightweights from Munich made their way into the final and got the audience sitting at the pool’s edge soaked to the skin. On the second weekend of the boat show, 22 surfers from Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Morocco and Germany took part in the first ever boot Düsseldorf Wave Masters. Racing took place in a knock-out system, judge by a jury of three. On top, 1,700 boat show visitors got a chance to test their fortunes on the perfect wave during the nine days of the show and make first attempts at wave riding. Overall, round about 35.000 boat show visitors watched and enjoyed the surfing spectacle on The Wave in Hall 2 of the boot Düsseldorf.
