SUP for people with disabilities
SUP motivates!
24 hours stand-up paddling - Matthias Wagner sets himself big goals and reaches them: In May 2018 he actually achieved the world record of paddling for 24 hours, despite a leg prosthesis. With the long tour across the Xanten North and South Seas, he even collected donations for a good cause. Especially if someone doesn't believe him capable of something, this motivates him all the more and so he came to the SUP in 2017 when a surf instructor at the Baltic Sea decided without further ado that he couldn't do it anyway... and Matthias promptly got on the board.
On the amputation of his leg he himself says: "On 15.12.2015 my new life began! To this day I regret nothing! He had decided to take this step himself after a 15-year torture with 30 operations had led to a stiff and very painful leg - and all this only because of a meniscus tear at the age of 18.
In 2018 Kathy chose the Mercedes SUP Worldcup Scharbeutz on the waves of the Baltic Sea as the second SUP competition in her life. The magazine "Paddle League" wrote: "Paddling is suitable for everyone: Kathy Rüsbüldt may not have won any medals at the SUP World Cup in Germany, but she definitely won a lot of respect. Thanks for the healthy dose of inspiration, Kathy."
In the ranking list of the German SUP Association she is ranked 20th in the discipline Long Distance and is still highly motivated: The first competitions for 2019 are already scheduled, including Scharbeutz again. "You only have one leg! That's not true - I have two and one more beautiful than the other," she says, and that since she was 4 years old due to an accident. With her bathing prosthesis she can do stand-up paddling and swimming.
