The first time Stand Up Paddling - we were there!

It was a rather cool and windy Friday at Lake Unterbach in Düsseldorf. But for the winners of our boot.club raffle it was absolutely certain: they were going out onto the water on SUP boards! We met the participants and the instructor Lars Thierling at Lake Unterbach right on time at 3 pm. The boards were unloaded, prepared and the winners were welcomed. boot.club member Dirk shared this great experience with his eleven year old son Jesper. Jesper's brother and mother were also present at the event.

boot Düsseldorf inspires

Dirk has been a boot.club member for two years now and tells us that he has actually come to boot Düsseldorf every year since his youth. His son Jesper also reports enthusiastically about his experiences at the trade fair. He is a real water lover: he has already tried rowing, windsurfing, sailing, swimming and SUP. For his father Dirk, SUP is a first and an adventure he is particularly looking forward to.

Gripped by SUP-Fever!

Lars Brinkmann, the instructor of "Paddling is fun", has been a passionate paddler for years - even his dog has got SUP fever! Lars tells us that Stand Up Paddling as an instructor is all about getting people closer to paddling and taking away their initial fears. Success in SUP depends "90% on the psyche, 99% on the technique and 1% on talent," says Lars. So once you've learned the right paddling technique and overcome fear, it's easy. So far, so good. But now the winners finally want to get on the water!

Important Hints for SUP-Beginners

Paddling at the beginning only between the buoys
Nature and environmental protection are important! Do not enter the islands, leave no rubbish behind and take any rubbish found with you.
No jokes with the word "help"! Only raise the alarm in an emergency
Wear vest and wetsuit
After paddling always clean the board, especially salt water attacks the material.

Getting on the board

Finally the time has come: It's time to go on Lake Unterbach! At first a little hesitant, the fifty-year-old Dirk gets on the board. After a few paddle strokes he stands solidly on the water. Now he, his son Jesper and Lars finally start paddling. Although it looks very easy, the wind and the cold temperatures make it a bit difficult to keep the balance. But after a few laps on the water, the three of them head for the somewhat wind-protected areas of the lake - and here balance is no longer a problem.

A special adventure

For the boot.club winners, the SUP course at Lake Unterbach was a special adventure that was the crowning glory of this wonderful summer. And we are absolutely sure that we will see them paddling on an SUP board over the lakes of the region again next spring.
