However, things are different nowadays. Inflatable boats for easy assembly and transport have become less common, but there are now all kinds of rigid hull boats with additional buoyancy tubes - so called rigid inflatable boats (RIB). But with RIBs, the advantages of an inflatable boat over a conventional GRP or aluminium hull boat have remained. The inflatable boat is lighter and laterally stable. If the weight is shifted, the tubes provide such good buoyancy that the boat heels only slightly on its side. This provides safety of movement on board. The tubes also stabilise the boat in rough water and ensure that it does not submerge too far. Even when the cockpit is completely full of water, the tubes provide enough buoyancy to prevent the boat from sinking.
