Being able to knot sailing knots quickly and correctly is an important basic skill for all crew members on board. In short video tutorials we explain how to knot the four most important sailing knots – figure of eight, round turn with half hitches, sheet bend and bowline - correctly. very easy to follow!
Figure of eight
The figure eight is used to secure the end of a line, sheet or halyard against rushing out through a grommet or block.
1 1/2 round turn with 2 half hitches
This knot is suitable for securing a line to a ring or bollard, e.g. for mooring lines.
The sheet bend
With the sheet bend, two lines or ropes can be securely connected so that they can be separated again even after a high tension load.
The bowline hitch
The bowline hitch is probably the most important knot that is used in many different ways on board. It provides a loop that does not contract under load and is easy to open again after use.
