The sustainable approach of MAR-IX marine HVAC systems
The company Mavé in The Netherlands is manufacturer of and specialized in customized marine HVAC systems, known under the brand MAR-IX. In general HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) is one of the major energy users on board. Mavé is very much aware of the energy consumption of HVAC systems on-board (super)yachts and professional vessels, but also of the importance of keeping the operational costs and the pressure on the environment low. By using the MAR-IX marine HVAC system, several superyacht shipyards have already reduced the electric load of their HVAC system massively. In some cases the e-load reduction has been over 70% in the HVAC system and over 30% in the general electric load of the yacht. These remarkable results are the effect of smart product- and system engineering as well as using the newest available techniques. Once a vessel is able to reduce massively on its electrical power usage, it means an enormous improvement for the environment. Generators can be chosen smaller sized or do not have to produce so much power, which results in burning less fuel and by that less air pollution. Also the use of shore-power will be reduced. All these aspects certainly have a positive impact on the environment. But not only the environment is the winner, the benefits for the owners are interesting as well. Not only the building costs of a vessel will be reduced, but also the operational costs will decrease massively.

Reducing operational costs
"The awareness of reducing the operational costs of a vessel is not only something which is a point of attention on professional vessels, but we've noticed over the years that also superyacht owners and their crew are on top of their operational costs. By easily saving so much money on their operational costs, they are very motivated to have our low energy consuming HVAC systems installed," according to Mark Vermetten, CEO of Mavé.

Size matters ...
MAR-IX systems are well known for their small size, low sound levels  and excellent quality.
"Our in-house design- and engineering department is able to create highly energy efficient systems, especially when we are being involved in the projects from a very early stage on. Our company can then advice the yards with the best possible piping and ventilation routes through the vessel. This can save the yard a serious amount of money on installation costs." Vermetten says.

Related to other products available in the market for 25+ meter vessels, the amount of space which is saved by installing MAR-IX equipment is very interesting. "In case of a refit, the MAR-IX chillers are often less than half the size of the chiller plant originally installed; the same goes for our fresh-air systems.  Added to that, smaller sized systems also result in weight reduction, which is always an important aspect for vessels. With having smaller equipment, such as fan coil units that are usually placed behind the interior, we are able to offer the interior designers and shipyards more living space to work with; a real benefit." Vermetten explains. All these advantages together, combined with extremely low sound levels of the equipment, are the main reasons why MAR-IX products and systems are often chosen by super yacht shipyards and owners.

100% circular: recycling included
On the METSTRADE (Marine Equipment Trade Show), the world’s biggest B2B leisure marine equipment show, Mavé will present not only their newest MAR-IX innovative products, as well as their sustainable approach. One example of this approach is the offer for recycling removed units to refit clients. If we can install a MAR-IX system, Mavé will take care of the recycling of the removed chiller plant and other HVAC equipment. Vermetten: "By providing this service to our clients we are really on top of the circularity, we're not only talking about the environment, we also take care of it.”
