It is another one of those opportunities that no fans are going to want to miss: the biggest and longest pontoon transport that has ever headed for boot is mooring at the ramp to the Rhine on the exhibition site in Düsseldorf. On board: ten extravagant luxury yachts, which will be finding their temporary home in the halls during boot from 19. to 27. January. The pontoon is 160 metres long and 15.50 metres wide and is being towed from Rotterdam to Düsseldorf by two tugboats. The journey even included the start of the new year, because the trip along the Rhine began in Europe’s largest port on New Year’s Eve. The yachts spent almost three days on the water. Numerous spectators gathered again on the banks of the Rhine to witness their arrival in Düsseldorf. “Plenty of fans are keen to watch the arrival and unloading of the pontoon in Düsseldorf. Some of them even see the pontoon leave the place they live and then come here to experience the exciting transport manoeuvre. And our trade fair team is always there to welcome the yachts”, explains boot Director Petros Michelidakis. The transport operation is organised by the Dutch companies Starclass Yachts and Hebo Maritime in liaison with the trade fair logistics company Kühne und Nagel from Düsseldorf, which moves the precious freight into the exhibition halls.
The pontoon is carrying the finest of the fine from Italy as well as a proud representative of Britain. Nine stylish motor yachts from the traditional Italian shipbuilders Ferretti, Azimut, Monte Carlo, Riva and Pershing as well as one elegant sailing yacht from the Oyster boatyard with a total value of EUR 30 million are travelling to the trade fair together. On reaching the site, they are being lifted off the floating pontoon carefully on 3. and 4. January and are being driven to Hall 6 (luxury yachts) and Hall 16 (Oyster) on heavy good vehicles.
