About the German Sailing League
The German Sailing League was founded in 2013 by the Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga GmbH (DSBL GmbH) together with 17 sailing clubs. In the 1st Sailing Bundesliga and the 2nd Sailing Bundesliga, 18 clubs each compete against each other. Sailing is done with four to five people on one-design keelboats. The squad of a Bundesliga club includes up to 20 sailors. Each regatta counts equally towards the standings. The club with the fewest points after the last regatta wins the Bundesliga. After the successful premiere year in 2013, a 2nd Sailing Bundesliga was introduced in 2014 in addition to the 1st Sailing Bundesliga. In each of the two leagues, 18 clubs compete.
The best clubs from the 1st Bundesliga qualify for the SAILING Champions League, the international club competition. The clubs in 15th to 18th place are relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga, while the best four clubs from the 2nd Bundesliga are promoted to the 1st Bundesliga. For the clubs in 15th to 18th place in the 2nd Bundesliga, the post-season "Deutsche Segel-Liga Pokal" competition is about remaining in the Bundesliga.
