The new, 17 foot long TOPCAT model K2X is designed as a sporty, fast and reliable all-rounder.
Whether it was setting the sails solo after work, on holiday with the kids or on the club regatta as a helmsman with a foresheet - these were the challenges to the hull shape of the TOPCAT K2X. In addition, the computer-aided flow simulations (CFD) for the smaller K4X and K3X were further refined. U-frame, negative stem and chines (wider front over water against danger by undercutting) remained.
Ideal for sailing schools "The buoyancy of the hull volume is sufficient for parents with two children. And for erecting after a capsizing 85 kilograms are sufficient already , explains TOPCAT managing director Pablo Walden. Who weighs less while riding solo, can use a lifting aid with pulley block. The large range aims also at sail schools, where frequently at the beginning of the courses a sail instructor joins the novices on the Trampolin.
Various configurations Depending on the application, cat fans can choose between three different types of sails. The simplest under the name Classic has a Dacron mainsail of 13.5 square metres and a furling jib measuring 4.2 square metres. In the Streamcut, the Dacron mainsail is flared to the rear at the top and measures 15.9 square metres; luff stretcher and double trapeze can also be supplied. The regatta version also includes the 17.7-square-metre furling genaker, as well as a Pentex main and, among other things, a ball bearing traveller and a Harken main sheet block.
Furling Gennakers on the rise "After the furling gennaker had initially proved its worth with beginners, the simple handling of the system with little effort also prevails with experienced sailors," says Pablo Walden. The tension of the torsion line can be controlled at any time by a halyard guided on the mast, in order to guarantee an optimal furling and un furling. In an emergency, the complete gennaker can also be dropped and salvaged on the water.
Easy transport on the trailer As further extras, the shipyard installs keel shoes on request if soft beach sand does not predominate on the shore for mooring, and offers anticoralli hull reinforcement. The splittable mast (5.10 metres plus 3.50 metres, instead of 8.20 metres) enables roof transport and more practical winter storage. With a width of 2.44 metres, the TOPCAT K2X can also be trailer-mounted when assembled.
