The SEAMASTER Award was presented for the seventh time at the FLAGSHIP NIGHT at boot Düsseldorf 2019. With this award, boot Düsseldorf and Delius Klasing Publishers honour a personality who particularly stands out in water sports. The prize goes to Carolijn Brouwer in 2019.
The jury of experts that honours the Seamaster for outstanding achievements in water sports includes the editors-in-chief of the magazines BOOTE, BOOTE EXCLUSIV, YACHT and SURF. The jury is chaired by Delius Klasing publisher Konrad Delius and Petros Michelidakis, Director of boot Düsseldorf. The award ceremony traditionally took place as part of an international maritime gala, the "Flagship Night", to kick off boot Düsseldorf on the evening of January 19th.
Sailing history has been made 45-year-old professional sailor Carolijn Brouwer made sailing history in 2018 with her victory in the Volvo Ocean Race. She was the only woman to sail all stages of the prestigious regatta around the world - and won the last stage as well as the overall standings with Team Dongfeng. A historic victory for the ambitious and smart sailor, who was enthusiastically celebrated by her compatriots during the thrilling finish sprint offshore The Hague.
Participation in the Sydney Hobart Race Carolijn Brouwer recently took part in the legendary Rolex Sydney Hobart Race on board the "Wild Oats X" under the leadership of skipper Stacey Jackson with an all-female team. This was the first time in the history of this Christmas classic that a women-only crew had chased the Tattersall Cup. Bouwers Crew ultimately took second place in the overall ranking of the 74th edition of the traditional regatta. It will be interesting to see what Carolijn Brouwer will do this year.
