Summer Trend Stand Up Paddling – how to get started
Summer and sunshine: everybody wants to be on the water now! And wherever you look you’ll see the absolute trend of recent years: SUP. For all those who haven’t yet had the courage to get out on a shaky surfboard, now is the best opportunity to try it out for free.
What is SUP?
SUP stands for “stand-up paddling” and the name says it all. You stand on a board that resembles a surfboard, the so-called SUP board, and propel it forward with a long paddle.
Stand-up paddling is a great way to stay fit. It trains your balance, strength and endurance. SUP is also perfect for simply clearing your head and relaxing in nature. It’s also an ideal secondary sport for on holidays: the inflatable boards and extendable paddles can be quickly stowed away in a motor yacht or sailboat so you always have them with you wherever you go. Perfect fun for a day out on the bay.
Where can I try SUP?
A great opportunity to test stand-up paddling for free and get some useful tips is the “Paddling is fun – Canoe & SUP on Tour” promotion. In July and August, initiator Lars Thiering and his team will be available at a total of eight campsites located in the most beautiful spots on the water in Germany. In their arsenal they will have canoes, kayaks and of course SUP boards.
SUP tips for beginners
On the tour, participants easily learn how to handle the board and paddle – from transport and preparation on land to execution on the water. Lars and his team show you how to keep your balance on the board and, best of all, how to get going with your paddle.
To get you started, they will explain the correct stance and paddling techniques on land before launching you on the water.
