Verband Deutscher Sportbootschulen e.V.

The Verband Deutscher Sportbootschulen e.V. (Association of German Sport Boat Schools) is the federal professional association for sail, surf and motorboat training. It represents the commercially and freelance operated training centers. The aim of the VDS is to ensure the quality of training in the watersports and sports boat schools and thus to create a good basis for beginners and advanced learners to enjoy and feel safe in their watersports.

The more than 200 member schools in the VDS have voluntarily submitted to regular inspections by the VDS, work with trained teaching staff, proper equipment and solid training boats, support their students with advice and assistance and form a good team together with the students.

Impressions of children sailing in Opti

Children aged 6 - 11 years learn sailing best in the Optimist dinghy. The Opti is the perfect beginner boat, but has even been recognized as an international boat class since 1972. In the Opti, children learn very quickly and easily how to steer a sailboat safely and adjust the sail correctly to the wind. The Opti is normally sailed by one child, but in some courses two children are welcome.

After completing the Opti course, the children take a child-friendly exam in theory and in practice and then receive the sailing junior basic certificate. Afterwards, the children can further develop their knowledge and skills in additional Opti courses and obtain the VDS sailing junior performance certificate.
