Exterior
Moving to the yacht’s exterior, the most striking feature of Azimut 66 is unquestionably the 28 m2 flybridge, the largest in its category. This space is divided into three separate areas, offering the owner, his or her family and their guests total freedom to enjoy the outdoor life until late in the evening. Next to the helm is a dinette that can be turned into a sunbathing area. In the centre, opposite the wet bar, is the dining area with a table for up to eight guests, while the layout of the stern area can be customised with sofas and “self-contained” sunbathing areas, inspired once again by the latest home design trends. The lounge area can also be fitted with a second unit containing a double barbecue and ceramic hotplates for outdoor use. Moving forward to the sun-lounging area, which is traditionally large thanks to the trapezoid bow that is a distinctive feature of Stefano Righini’s design concept, we find a large sunbathing area with C-shaped bench seats, to which a bimini top with an automatic opening mechanism can be added. The hydraulic swim platform at the stern can be used to store a tender of up to 325 cm in length.
Highest standards of design and construction
Azimut 66 Fly holds Class A CE certification for unlimited navigation and meets the strictest NMMA requirements for safety on board. Forward visibility of 50 m is also guaranteed from the main helm station. More than 90% of the fibreglass parts are infusion laminated, with variable layouts depending on the fibre used, while 100% of exterior fibreglass surfaces are made with DSM vinyl ester resin, offering maximum protection from the elements. Bulkhead passthrough fittings are totally watertight, using the Geaquello sealing system for electric cables and threaded connections for hydraulic tubing. Pipe fittings below the water line are made entirely from bronze. During design work there was a special focus on reducing vibration, involving the introduction of specific damping solutions. Furniture frames are made entirely from okoume plywood, certified for use at sea. The outdoor upholstery is made from open-cell Dry-Fil material for good drainage. The deckhouse windows are treated with reflective material and curved to give continuity to the yacht’s profile.
Performance: quitee simply impeccable
The lines of the Azimut 66’s hull are the same as those which have given Azimut 62 and 64 owners so much pleasure at sea. The deadrise at the centre of the yacht is 20° and 17° at the stern, but the bare facts don’t do justice to the yacht’s performance, which is defined by the perfect relationship between weight distribution, wet surface and balance forces. The end result is exceptional handling, with reduced dynamic trim angles in any conditions, soft wave control and superb performance at sea. Fitted with CAT C18 – 1150 mHP engines, the Azimut 66 can reach a maximum speed of 32 knots.
