In my opinion, fall is the best time of year to catch big fish. It is getting cooler. The water temperature drops. The fish realize that they need to eat enough fat for the coming winter. Especially for carp fishing, the weeks after the water temperature drops below 16 degrees are incredibly good. During this time, the carp eat much more compared to the previous months.

Feeding action
At the beginning of October I started a feeding action that will remain in my memory for a long time. I fed over two weeks at a quarry pond on an underwater headland. This spot had consistently produced very large carp the last few years. This groundwork and the catches of recent years increased my anticipation immeasurably....

Session number one
Then the first fishing weekend of planned three sessions had begun. The rods lay perfectly. Only the weather still fluctuated from warm to cold and from cold to warm. It was not ideal, but I was eager to get on the water. So long before I had been looking forward. Two nights were planned for the first session. The first night went without a bite. The second day brought a nice mirror carp of 16.4 kg in the morning. [...]

The second strike
The second weekend followed quickly. I had continued to feed my spot regularly. Already on arrival I recognized at least 40 coots and heron ducks over my spot. So slowly I had an idea why the last weekend only one carp bit. After the rods were laid out it took less than 20 minutes for the first hen to find my bait. A new spot was needed, despite the great food action. So I planned the next trip... [...]

Successful conclusion
On the third weekend, the weather once again did not play along. [...] At some point it stopped raining... What followed was a shrill beeping from the bite indicator. Great! A football-like mirror carp made me forget the strain. I had just taken the photos when the next bite indicator screamed. It was joined by a nice scaled carp. Satisfied I climbed into my sleeping bag and fell asleep. At four o'clock in the morning my bite indicator asked me again for a carp dance. The fish was behaving strangely. I didn't feel any banging or big escapes. He just lay in the depth and swam slowly to where he wanted to go. But maybe it was also because I was still slightly drowsy. What I saw rising after the drill left me speechless. Was I dreaming? What a monster! A beautiful mirror carp showed up in the landing net. It weighed 27,5 KG. [...]
