Where to find big bass To catch really big perch you need bigger lakes and rivers. In smaller waters, the perch stocks disappear very quickly. In Germany it is mainly the reservoirs, like the Edersee, and the big rivers like the Rhine, which regularly produce capital perch. Large perch are one to two stories deeper than their smaller counterparts. Perch live in shoals. If you find a school of medium sized perch around 30cm, you are on the right track. Often a few meters behind or under the shoals near the bottom are the stands of larger perch.

These thin cords have less resistance both when casting in the air and when retrieving in the water. Thus, line bends are minimized and the baits can be fished a little easier and deeper.
Big hooks Big bass have a porous mouth. Not only is it difficult to entice large perch to bite, but the drill also demands a lot from the angler. The mouths of perch are very porous and offer small hooks little attack surface. Larger hooks provide a remedy here.
Bait with scent For several years now, there have been a number of new artificial lures on the market. One of the best developments, in my opinion, are artificial lures with smell and taste. This prolongs the time until the fish catches on to the bait.
Use Fluocarbon Perch can see very well and are very smart due to their old age. Fluorocarbon is essential if you want to catch big bass regularly on waters with clear water. Mostly I use fluocarbon in the thicknesses 0,25 mm to 0,35 mm. For smaller rubber fish I tend to choose the thinner version. With the Texasrig also sometimes 0.35 mm. This may look a bit strong for perch at first glance, but we are aiming for the big ones.
Stir up food envy Almost every angler knows it. While you drill a perch, more perch aggressively follow. Therefore, tie a small swivel to the braided main line. Two fluocarbon leaders are attached to this swivel. One of 1 meter and one of 1.5 meters. A smaller rubber fish is attached to the shorter leader and a larger one to the longer one. If a small perch now bites on the small rubber fish. The other perch will find another prey fish while pursuing it. Because of the food envy even the shyest big perch lose their caution.
