Hoek Design Athos - 203' - 2010

Athos is the largest privately-owned schooner to date and now available for sale!

The giant schooner Athos, with an overall length of 203 feet and a length over deck of 184 feet, was launched in 2010 at Holland Jachtbouw to considerable acclaim. The design was subject to tank tests with various keels and rudders on a 1:10 scale - an actual 19-foot model was used - as well as extensive wind tunnel tests. Thanks to these preparations, Athos has a graceful aero and hydrodynamic shape, with a deep-V hull, shallow draught keel and integrated centreboard configuration. Computational Fluid Dynamics calculations determined the optimal keel shape details and centreboard position. The rig features furling booms, carbon spars, fibre rigging and captive winches on sheets and halyards, making her almost fully pushbutton-operated.

Athos’ 11-metre beam will allow for an enormous amount of interior volume, including a private owner’s cockpit and deckhouse, four guest cabins, a main deckhouse with a formal dining and lounge area and five crew cabins. Other interior highlights include a large walk-in fridge freezer, a separate control room including a captain’s/engineer office directly connected to the engineers cabin, a large laundry area and direct access from the control room into the engine room.

Some of the unique features of Athos are standing headroom in her engine room under the main salon and double main engines driving controllable pitch propellers. Integrated side platforms constitute ideal landing possibilities for dinghies, while large deck lockers provide storage for two 29-er sailboats, two Optimists, two motorbikes, scuba gear and a fly boat.

Hoek Design Adele – 180′ – 2005

The owner of this sensational 180-foot ketch was attracted by the concept of having a separate aft section of the boat all to himself, including a stateroom, deckhouse and cockpit. The stateroom itself is huge, and includes walk-in closets and a magnificent bathroom. Adele still has ample space for four guest suites, four crew cabins and some lovely relaxation areas. Her dual-purpose design - exploring remote areas and recreational racing - involved an extensive amount of research. The hull, keel and rudder were rigorously tank tested, with five different keels being examined, and the sail plan was extensively wind tunnel tested. Launched in 2005, Adele has an aluminium hull, a fin keel with bulb and a rudder with fixed skeg. She was completed at Vitters to ABS and MCA requirements. The interior design, exterior styling and all naval architecture work was carried out by our office with MCM acting as owner' s representative.
Adele has won the International Superyacht Design Award, the World Superyacht Award, and the Showboat Award 2006. This hat trick had never previously been achieved by another yacht in a single year. The book Exploring with Adele (available via info@hoekdesign.com) outlines the Arctic and Antarctic travels of the yacht in the first two years.

Hoek Design TC 68 Schwanensee II – 2008

Schwanensee II is the fifth Truly Classic 65 to be built with a customised interior and high tech rig package. Her hull was built by Holland Jachtbouw in the Netherlands and the yacht was finished by Metur Yachts, a specialised yard in Bodrum, Turkey.

Built for experienced owners, Schwanensee II has a very high specification throughout, with immaculate joinery work,
carbon spars by Southern Spars, rod rigging and North spectra sails to name a few. Technically she is also
exceptionally well equipped with a Volvo 6 cylinder main engine driving a maxprop folding propeller, a
DC generator and Spectra watermakers. There is air-conditioning in the main accommodation areas.

With a draft of 2.35 metres, Schwanensee II was designed to cruise shallow waters. Her tall sail plan with carbon spars means she is a very powerful and sturdy sailing yacht that performs really well in both light and heavy winds.
Specific attention was paid to sail the yacht shorthanded. Single line reef systems, a parkavenue boom, electric
winches and furler facilitate this.

The interior and deck layout are optimised with the experience gained in the other 20-plus Truly Classics built to date. Schwanensee II has a deckhouse with dining table and nav station, two guest cabins aft and an owner’s suite forward. Her main saloon is designed as a lounge area with comfortable sofa and built-in armchairs.

The interior styling is to a high level of detail. Classic but with modern touches, stand-out features include leather floors with stainless steel trims, wood carving artwork in the main bulkhead of the saloon and whitewashed Oregon ceilings. Schwanensee II's varnished teak interior is treated with a Sayerlack system giving the wood a bare, natural look.
