The province of Raja Ampat is Indonesia’s most easterly province and has earned its reputation as the world epicentre of marine biodiversity.

Heart of Biodiversity
Raja Ampat is an archipelago of over 1,500 small islands, including the four main islands of: Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo. Scientists have conducted several marine surveys in our area and their findings indicate that the marine life diversity here is the highest of any recorded on Earth. The variety of aquatic species, the variety and density of healthy vibrant corals and the abundance of fish has to be experienced to fully understand the importance of conserving the area.

Worldrecord house reef
Dr. Gerald R. Allen, internationally renowned Ichthyologist and author of more than 33 fish ID books conducted a survey on Cape Kri counting an amazing number of 374 different reef fish species. A significant increase of 91 species from his former Cape Kri survey 11 years earlier. This increase is evidence that our conservation work for over 20 years delivers results both in increased bio-diversity and improved health in our local eco-system.

No, nothing fishy about it!
Go dive and see it yourself: conveniently the record holding reef (Cape Kri) is right in front of Sorido Bay Resort so within seconds you can dive the best reef in the world.

Fluo Diving
A Brand New Science – A unique Dimension

Experience a new dimension in diving so new and exclusive that more people have seen earth from space than have seen corals in this totally new light!

Not only does Papua Diving have the most pristine reefs on the planet – and perhaps the only reefs on earth which are actually thriving, getting healthier, richer and more diverse each year – but now you can discover something so different and magical, that you will never see marine creatures the same way again. Taking you back to premier ocean discovery, we call it ” Fluo-Diving“.

A fluo dive will show you a side of a night dive you might never have dreamed possible. Corals, fish and other creatures will take on mysterious, otherworldly colours beneath the fluo dive lamps, quite literally becoming as different as night and day. Once you finally bring yourself to return to the surface, your view on the sea will be forever changed.

About us

Company details

1 island, 2 resorts
Max Ammer, the founder of Papua Diving, first came to the region over 21 year ago following his passion to search for submerged World War II aircraft. After spending so much time in Raja Ampat Max fell in love with the Papuan people and started a number of initiatives to support the local Papuan communities. Papua Diving was one of the projects. It’s mission: to bring much needed money to the local people by enabling divers who had never heard of the region to be amazed by the wonders of the unspoiled aquatic world here.

Unique knowledge and insights about the area
Papua Diving is unique when compared to other land based and liveaboard operators in Raja Ampat. Not only thanks to our outstanding location – Today we may pride ourselves of having an unique knowledge about the area thanks to working so closely together with the Papuan people for many years. Choosing to stay with Papua Diving is more than an amazing tropical island and aquatic world experience. You will also directly contribute to local marine & community conservation activities. Compared to other operators in the area, we still stand by our credentials as:

  • providing employment to more papuan people than other operators (90% of our staff are papuan)
  • donating 10% of profit to conservation initiatives
  • in addition to direct donations we invest more money into the local economy and other practical assistance to local communities
  • we actively set up and support conservation initiatives and projects
