About us

Company portrait

In the autumn of 1969, the owners of the centerboard VARIANTA, which had been built by the Dehler Yachtbau shipyard after a crack by E. G. van de Stadt, who were interested in regatta sports, initially formed an association for the promotion of regatta sports with the VARIANTA with the support of the shipyard.

On May 6, 1971, the VARIANTA was recognized by the DSV as a one-type class.

On February 20, 1973, a few VARIANTA owners gathered in Freienohl for the purpose of founding the Varianta Klassenvereinigung e. V. The names of these founding members were:

Wolfgang Bader; Heinrich Plinke; Friedrich Klee; Karl Heinz Rusche; Nikolaus Sebestyen; Willi Dehler; Josef Schulte Feldmann; Wolfgang Hilburg; Heinrich Schütte and Georg Schmitzsen.

Josef Schulte Feldmann (Sorpesee) was elected as 1st chairman, whose main task was to initiate the formalities for the recognition of the class association. Consequently, it was entered in the register of associations at the Arnsberg District Court.

Some of the founding members are still very close to the class today. For example, Josef Schulte Feldmann's son, Clemens, sails on the VA 182 today, and Heinrich Plinke's son, Peter, even won the title of German Champion. His sons Daniel and Benjamin are still sailing on the same VA 446.

On 30.10.1976 Rudolf Schulz from Berlin became chairman of the Class Association. Under his leadership the first issue of Varianta Information was published as issue "0". In the meantime 85 issues of this publication have appeared. During his tenure, the VARIANTA gained recognition as a national class of the DSV, which was the basis for hosting German Championships.

On October 25, 1986 Wolfgang Kaesewinkel was elected as 1st chairman and determined the fate of the Varianta Klassenvereinigung e. V. for 26 years before Ludwig Settele took over the leadership of the KV on November 17, 2012.

With consistently over 500 members for years, the class presents itself at the boat shows in Düsseldorf and Berlin. The Varianta-Info, meanwhile in colour, is published in January and in July.
